Packaging
We package every order with care to make sure your products arrive safely. Depending on the item and where it’s going, we use materials like paper or plastic mailers, cardboard boxes, and protective inserts such as foam pouches or bubble wrap when needed.
All apparel orders shipped from our in-house facilities now use post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic bags. In North America, where most of our customers are located, we’ve fully switched to packaging with 90–100% PCR plastic content.
Common packaging materials
- Poly mailers (white or grey): Made from at least 70% PCR plastic.
- Clear inside bags: At least 30% PCR, used to group multiple items.
- Cardboard boxes: Used for fragile or larger items.
- Eco mailers in Australia: Compostable mailers with clear composting instructions.
- Bubble envelopes: Used for specific products like notebooks and pin button sets.
- Stay-flat envelopes: Provide extra support for flat items like posters and stickers.
Are Printful’s packaging materials sustainable?
Yes; we’re committed to using sustainable packaging wherever we can, and we know it matters to you too.
For apparel orders shipped from our in-house facilities, we use post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic packaging. PCR plastics are made from recycled materials like used shopping bags and wrapping film, which helps to lessen their environmental impact.
Here’s what that looks like:
- Outer mailers (white or grey): At least 70% PCR worldwide.
- Inner bags (clear) for multi-item orders: At least 50% PCR.
- In North America, apparel packaging is now 90%-100% PCR plastic.
PCR plastic is just as durable and protective as virgin plastic, but it’s a more eco-friendly choice. You can read more about our packaging
Are the packaging materials recyclable?
Yes; many of the materials we use for packaging can be recycled, but it depends on your local recycling guidelines and the type of packaging used.
What can be recycled?
- PCR plastic mailers: Made from low-density polyethylene (LDPE), also known as number 4 plastic. This type of plastic is recyclable but usually not accepted in regular curbside bins. Instead, it needs to be dropped off at designated recycling points (like those for plastic bags).
- Kraft mailers and cardboard boxes: These are widely recyclable and can go in your paper recycling bin.
Local recycling rules
Recycling practices vary by location, so it’s always best to check with your local waste management provider for proper sorting instructions.
Note: Placing the wrong materials in the recycling bin can contaminate the entire batch and cause it to be discarded.

How do I care for my product?
We use water-based inks that are absorbed by the fibers of the garment.
Any odor it leaves behind will fade significantly when left out, and will be gone entirely once the item is washed.
To best preserve the life of the design, we recommend Wash inside out with cold water.
Do not use bleach.
Do not iron directly on the printed area.
Air dry when possible.
